Demotivational posters are the new motivation!

Sometimes, it's better not to look in the rear view mirror.

You may not like what you see.

However, this weekend, you should look at some of your old writing. Feel free to cringe and groan and laugh at what you thought was a brilliant metaphor.

And then, see how far you've come.

Then, recognize this: you are only going to get better.

It isn't even close to Game Over for you yet.

Sometimes, you just want to go out and have fun.

Allowing yourself to relax is important, but make sure you're getting everything you need to get done first.

Otherwise, you'll regret those hours of nothingness when you have to get back to work.

Besides, you'll enjoy the free time more if you've earned it.

Give yourself a couple of goals this weekend, complete them, and then, celebrate!

How far have you come in your writing? What are your goals this weekend?

  2. So many goals, so little time! Hubby planned a weekend at our cabin. I'd thought he meant he was taking the kids, but learned last night he wants me to come too. And here I was thinking I'd have the house to myself for some good writing. Meh.

    Have a great weekend!

  4. I am still trying to finish up on the editing of my first novel.

AS you know there is just not enough time. This last edit is a killer because I need to cut it down a few more thousand words. I know that doesn't sound a lot, but I have already cut this ms in half... yes, half and I still need the word count down because I changed the genre from Y/A to M/G.

    Have a great weekend, Melissa.

  5. I love devotional posters. I even have my son's walls covered in them. He always said that looking at them keep him motivated. He's into sports and some of his sports heros are on those posters. Hey, a mom's got to get her positive reinforcements in whenever possible.

  6. Haha! I love those posters. There's a few with Jensen/Dean and I love them. Obviously. That first one makes me think of my work, not sure why....yikes. I don't even have an evil dog (yet).

Oh, this weekends goal. Check and recheck my work because I don't do that enough already (sarcasm) and then go to Piedmont, which you understand. You also know how much I am looking forward to this (sarcasm again).

It's nice to look back at my previous work and see just how far I've come. I was a lousy writer! Good story teller, but lousy writer ;) Hoping to have two chapters done this weekend and a painted living room! Yay!

Hope you're getting through your school work and will have a break this weekend <3

  7. I love looking back at my old writing. Actually, it's more of a love/hate thing, but when it's that bad, it can only mean that it is now that much better! I love your pictures...and yes, I do have a writing goal. I hope to knock out two more chapters :)

  8. I think I may just celebrate this weekend even if I don't get anything done. It's been that kind of week.

  9. That is AWESOME! I totally love the kitty one. :D

And girl, you don't even want to KNOW how far I've come! It would make you sad to learn I sucked as bad as I once did. :)

  10. The evil-eye husky is hilarious! But I agree that looking back on old work should help us feel we're making progress. I found some old high school journals and had a bit of a laugh at my determination to prove I had a big vocabulary at the tender age of 16.

Weekend goals? Get a poetry submission prepared and revise a short story. If time allows, more agent research.

  11. LOL. Siberian huskies do have the tendency to look kinda scary, but I still think they're beautiful! Haha.

Goal this weekend? RELAX and DESTRESS.

  12. haha, great photos! I just started a new novel and was completely surprised about how much better it was from my previous. The previous was great (not to toot my own horn at all!), so I figured the next one would be at the same level. Nice to know I still have room to grow.

  16. I recently found an old story idea from either elementary or middle school. It was total dystopian sci fi type thing. I had all these crazy words for things made up and a million character sketches. It was awesome.

Hopefully I'll get some editing in tonight, and I also have some critiquing of a special someone's 50 pages.

  17. That first poster is scary! The second one should be more about the fact the cat has got all the food she could possibly desire. I think she's hugging her good fortune.

My sister is visiting, so I plan to have fun. Then I'm going to plan lessons for school. I probably won't have a chance to write.

    Have a great weekend!

  19. I love that kitty in the dish! Goals this weekend - 20 more pages of rewrites tomorrow and Sunday off! Yipee! Although some quack is predicting an earthquake here tomorrow so...if he turns out to be not such a quack, that may completely alter the weekend plans. You know, survival and all that...

  23. These pictures are so funny! I'm still giggling. I have a huge list of things to do this weekend but I'll keep plugging along.

I recently found some of my old poems from high school. OMG were they...ummm...angsty. Seriously. I'm surprised I had friends.

  24. I love looking back at old writing and seeing how much I've learned since then! It really is a great motivational tool. My goal this weekend is to just keep trucking on these revisions.

I hope your weekend is productive!

  25. Oh geez, those posters are great! You know, sometimes I'm so horrified by my old writing that I can barely look at it. Of course, you're right. That's a sign of growth and one I should use as a motivator. Great post!

  26. I love the kitty in the bowl of food. It reminds me of my daughter when she was little and she fell asleep in her spaghetti.

  28. Great point… looking back opened my eyes to how far I’ve came. The sad part is, I never look back and feel 100% satisfied with what I’ve done—the struggle continues.
