Book Wars 7

Before I dive into this weeks installment of Book Wars, I have a link you should check out. My awesome friend Jennie Bailey interviewed me for her Paws and Learn blog about my cat. If you want to know why I walk my cat, you should check it out!

On to this week's installment of Book Wars - the entirely positive battle between books I read this week.

Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright

So this book is based on the screenplay for the movie coming out on March 11th.  That being said, this book has no ending so it's hard to give you my overall opinion on it. (I did not know there was no ending when I bought it.) Apparently the final chapter of the book (the one that ties everything together) isn't going to be released until March 14th (so people have time to see the movie). I guess they want the ending to be a surprise. But, without an ending, I feel I have nothing more to say about the book than: it provides some interesting background information on the village the characters live in that I'm sure the movie won't.

VS.

Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney

My favorite  thing about this book is the humor. The MC Finbar is an awkward, pale kid with a 'perfect' twin brother who wants nothing more than to get a girl but has had nothing but awful luck so far. He keeps up to date with pop culture and realizes he can use the vampire trend to his advantage. If you don't think a high school boy pretending to be a vampire is funny on it's own...well, there's lots of other humor in here too.

This Week's Winner:

Bloodthirsty wins, hands down - and not just because it has an ending! This book is a believable portrayal of high school. It's relateable because pretty much everyone has done something crazy to get the attention of the opposite sex. At one point in our lives, we've all wanted to be someone else. This book is so funny because of its honesty. If you've ever been on the Vampire Book Bandwagon (and seriously, who hasn't been at one point or another?) I definitely recommend this book.

  1. How strange. It didn't have an ending? That's kind of like when they release half of a season on DVD/Blue Ray. It tasks me. Bloodthirsty sounds really cute and I'm sure full of humor. If it kept your interest in humor I imagine it's actually wonderful ;)
Ugh, I need to read more. Vertigo just wont allow for it, blah. But I am taking notes on books to catch up on when this stuff clears.

I'll be checking out your interview!!!

  2. I can't believe they didn't put in the ending! Stupidest thing I ever heard of.

    But bloodthirsty sounds hilarious! :)

  3. No ending? I read a sci-fi novel called Inverted World that had no ending. It was such a disappointment after reading what was a clever and well-written book.

I'm adding Bloodthirsty to my TBR pile!

  4. Okay, you already had me intrigued when you lef the comment about Bloodthirsty on my blog, but this is just too funny. It is definitely going on my TBR list. Heading to B&N.com now!

I give you mad props for walking your cat. I just try to keep mine drugged up on catnip so they're comfortable hanging indoors. ;o)

  5. A book without an ending? That's actually going to make people not want to see the movie, just to get their revenge.

  6. I agree with Elena. A book without an ending would make me mad.

  7. A book written after the screenplay? That makes me skeptical. And no ending?

    Fuggedaboutit!

  8. A book with no ending? I'd be...not happy. But, the trailer for the movie is awesome!

When you opened with a line about humor, on a book with that title...this one sounds really great!

  9. Yeah, I've heard not so great things about the no-ending part of this, but it does sound like it's going to be a fabulous movie. I thought it was interesting that they made a book of a screenplay instead of the other way around. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Wow, seriously - no ending? That is lame. IMO, the movie looks very standard, so I'm not in the least interested.

The other sounds awesome. Great reviews!

  11. No ending? Sounds like a manipulative marketing ploy to me--one that would keep me from seeing the movie or read the book. So thanks for the heads up!

Checked your interview--interesting how you trained your cat to take walks :-)

  12. I must read this one, lol. I have a friend like this, might have to pass it on to him too.

  13. That's really odd about Red Riding Hood. I wouldn't be too happy about that. Is the author publishing the ending online or something then? The movie looks pretty good. I was going to get the book from the library, but maybe I'll see the movie first now.

  14. I love your reviews! Will definitely take a look at Bloodthirsty, it sounds funny! ;-)

  15. LOL, the premise of Bloodthirsty sounds hilarious. It'd probably make a good teen movie. XP

That said, WTH Red Riding Hood book doesn't have an ending?! I mean, I get that it's a marketing ploy, but that's so not cool for people who just decide to BUY THE BOOK (and with that gorgeous cover, I bet there are a number of people who would pick it up/buy it). I mean, do you get the last chapter somehow later? That's SO ANNOYING. (I feel a little cheated on your behalf.)

  16. Wow, that's a whole new thing with the movie/non-ending book, eh? Maybe they're trying out a new marketing gimmick or something. Blech.

BUT I pretty much loved BLOODTHIRSTY. It had me laughing out loud in places and was a super fast and fun page-turner.

So huzzah for BLOODTHIRSTY! It was a winner for me, too. :)

  17. As weird as not having an ending sounds, I think it's kind of neat. Reading the book before the movie and not knowing what's going to happen. Keeps suspense high!

The second book sounds hilarious! I'm not a vampire book fan (unless you count the original, Dracula) but this one I'll have to check out!

  18. How odd that it has no ending. I guess I can kinda understand not wanting to spoil the movie though. Bloodthirsty looks funny, it is on my wish list.

  19. Bloodthirsty has the coolest cover! I heart it! I'm writing on the TOP of my TBR list.

  20. I can get they don't want to spoil the movie, but I like to read the books first. Oh well. I guess I'll wait. ;(

I like the sound of Bloodthirsty though.

  21. Wow, I've never heard of releasing a book based on the screenplay and then not releasing the end. So you have to buy a whole new book just so you can read the ending? Man, good marketing though I have to admit.

  22. I would freak out if a book I bought didn't have the ending! Bloodthirsty sounds adorable--definitely checking that one out!

  23. I've never heard of Bloodthirsty! It sounds awesome! :) I'm a new follower of your blog. I just found you through... I can't remember which blog. Ha ha. Nice to meet you! :)

  24. Never heard of Bloodthirsty but it sounds awesome! I almost picked up RRH this weekend too. REALLY glad I didn't now!! That sucks! They should tell you these things!

  25. bloodthirsty sounds cool, but ooo, I can't WAIT for that RRH movie. Ending or now, I'm just drooling... :D <3

  26. Also haven't heard of Bloodthirsty, but it does sound entertaining :-)
I would have been very frustrated if I bought a book and the last chapter wasn't there...

  27. Loved the interview! Mia is gorgeous :)

  28. No ending? I haven't heard of that before. I would definitely feel unsatisfied and wouldn't want to wait for one.

Bloodthirsty looks awesome. I've seen it before. I'll pick it up if I see it.

  29. Bloodthirsty sounds hilarious. It's funny because a lot of people do actually try to do that - pretend to be a vampire. LOL

  30. Really? No ending?? They both sound very good though! I've seen Bloodthirsty in the bookstore and wanted to check it out :)

I'm off to check out your interview now!
