On to the Writers Public Service Announcement
Do you write best in the comfort of your own bed or your favorite chair? Is writing at a desk simply not cutting it?
Never fear! Smart people somewhere have thought of that!
Someone gets that, for writers, sitting at a desk for hours on end can be hard on our backs. That after a while, your creative juices start getting clogged because of your discomfort. They know you want to move to someplace more comfortable. But now your legs are at risk of being severely burnt from your computer overheating (We'll spare you pictures of this disaster because it's gross but if you're curious google computer leg burns) and your computer itself is at risk of being damaged from not being able to cool down properly.
Writers of the world, we have the ultimate solution to all your writerly woes (Well, all of the physical ones. There is no magical cure for mental woes such as writers block, misbehaving characters and plot holes).
I give you the lap desk!
A solid surface for your computer or notebook, a cup holder so you have your favorite drink at the ready at all times, and a bean bag body that conforms to fit you.
This Writers PSA will now conclude with a firsthand testimonial:
I never thought of buying myself a lap desk. But my Aunt and Uncle bought me one for Christmas and, after trying it once, I was addicted. My lap desk fits my writerly needs, conforms to me to maximize comfort potential, it's in a stylish black and white design, and it's quickly becoming a writing necessity! I'm not quite sure how I wrote in bed without it before now. I have to say, I love it. Go buy one writer friends, I swear you won't regret it!

Did you get any gifts that are quickly becoming necessity's? Do you write in bed? Do you have a lap desk (If not, seriously guys, they are amazing! Go get one!)?
I buy anything that has a cup holder, so I'm in.
ReplyDeleteI NEED a lap desk. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteA lap desk, that's great!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I want one of these so bad! I'm glad you like it, it'll give me more incentive when I convince the hubby that it's a 'need' :)
ReplyDeleteSeems pretty cool. I enjoy my desk way too much though. :) Thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteI have one of these from middle school at my parents' house that I totally forgot about! I'm so getting that back. Thanks for the idea! :)
ReplyDeleteDo they come with manly images? Like flames or explosions?
ReplyDeleteJust had to ask...
I bought a lap desk almost a year ago. I'm using it right now. I can only work at my desk for so long before my back bothers me.
ReplyDeleteOh, those do look useful!
ReplyDeleteNever thought I'd ever get one but you make it sound awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat's tempting. But I already have one. Trouble is, it's such a dull white colour.
ReplyDeleteYah, I think I'll survive the art class. :)
I gave one away for Christmas, but now I kind of want one... The cup holder really sells it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I use a plain old desk-top computer, so it wouldn't work for me, but maybe for the hand written work . . . hmmm. And after that glowing recommendation, I may have to succumb! :)
ReplyDeleteThat lap desk sounds pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have to plug my computer in. Well, it isn't a lap top or note book. So a desk is it for me for now. Someday, I plan to be able to write outside and enjoy nature.

I am writing in bed as we speak...How timely!
ReplyDeleteI have a lap desk with a FAN! So it keeps my laptop cool while I'm writing! I heart it more than almost anything. When I write in bed, though, I do it by hand in a notebook or right now in my actual manuscript. Post-its littered all over the bed. The cats love to run off with the crumpled up ones. Sometimes I crumple them just for my own amusement.
ReplyDeletehello!!
ReplyDeleteI get a sore neck if I look down for too long... so unfortunately the desk suits me best... am open to comfy chairs...
Ha! Love it, can I get one in floral please? ;) x
ReplyDeleteI don't write longhand, so no. No writing in bed for me. But I READ in bed... love that. I don't think a lapdesk would work, though... I like to get comfy, and that seems too hunched. :D <3
ReplyDeleteNow I SOOO want one!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lap desk, but I've thought about getting one.
ReplyDeleteI work pretty much anywhere - sometimes at my desk, sometimes on the couch or in bed, sometimes at my desk at work... basically anywhere.
Ooh.. this is pretty neat! I want one!
ReplyDeleteI usually write in a corner of my room at my desk, but it's true, it's not very comfortable for 6 - 10 hours (or more!) at a time ;).
I love the writing desk , but more than that, I love your wit, and funny personality. Thanks for lifting my spirits.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lap desk--yet, but sounds like I might need one :-) As for a writing gift that has become a necessity, it has to be the pen that lights up that my critique group buddy gave me, for those thoughts that come to you in the middle of the night. If only the little beam of light didn't wake my husband. Light sleeper, he still can't get used to it!
ReplyDeleteYour interview was great--enjoyed reading more about you!
I have a lap desk...I love love love it! It's my home away from home. I even got Susan Fields to get one....I blog in the living room on my lap desk...Hey...I'm using it right now! (smile)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the interview...I'm heading over there next.
hahhahahhahahahhahahahhahahhahahhahahhahahahahahahhah! Really? soo good!
ReplyDeleteI have a lap desk and I love it. I do wish it had a cup holder, though...off to read the interview.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lap desk -- but what a great idea!
