Five Things

I wanted to do this post last Monday because it was Thanksgiving day in Canada but I was sick with the stomach flu (all better now!) all week and was about as productive as a sloth - actually, I was probably less productive.

Five things I'm thankful for (in no particular order).

1. That I actually love family dinners. My aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents are absolutely hilarious. The teasing never gets old and the all around insanity makes every meal novel worthy. I'm so happy I don't have to dread family affairs.

2. That my cat is so attuned to me that when she saw me loosing my guts in the toilet, she did the same beside me. It may be gross subject matter but you just don't find bonds like that every day.

3. That technology can keep us close to those we love even when they are far away.

4. That Jen gave me the final shove I needed to get over my excuses (University! Books! TV! Friends! Homework!) and sign up for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month, for those of you unaware). I've figured it all out and I need just over fifty thousand words to finish my book.

5. That my own moral ambiguity is such that it has allowed me to justify finishing my own novel during NaNoWriMo instead of coming up with a new idea. (I mean, come on fifty thousand words in thirty days? This kind of real pressure is exactly what I need.)

What are you Thankful for? Anyone joining NaNoWriMo? If you are, add me as a writing buddy!

  1. A novel...you know you are living my dream.

I have written stories since I could write but other than entertainment, good grades and few published poems, I have never really written for the throngs.

    I envy your talent!

  9. Ooh this is so weird to think of what I am thankful for so far from the US Thanksgiving! But we should always acknowledge what we are thankful for, right?

As usual, I am thankful for my happy, healthy family.

I am thankful for Mondays because they are always good days to start over on whatever goal I have set for myself.

I am thankful that I finally got my house decorated for Halloween!

Finally, I am thankful that I got my butt into gear at five AM this morning and walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes. Yay me! I can already feel my metabolism all revved up!

  13. From one Canadian to another - happy belated thanksgiving.

I'm thankful for small things that help me make it through the day, like my daughters smile, my son's laugh, and my other son's curly hair.

  17. Aww.. I'm so sorry to hear that you were sick, and on Thanksgiving, no less :(

You have a great list there. That's quite a cat you've got there! Is it strange that I find that story sweet? :)

Good luck on NaNo, I've signed up again this year. I think I need just about 50K to finish my novel too. We can do it!

  18. Good luck with NaNoMo. And seriously, I'd be morally ambiguous on that point, too. Hope you finish!

Sorry to hear that you were sick -- never fun. :(

Fantastic list, and instead of answering your question in the comments (It'll take forever and be long) I'll answer it in a blog post near U.S. Thanksgiving.

    Good luck with NaNoWriMo!

  21. Glad you're feeling better. I really should revisit my taste in pets, because I've never had one that sympathetic.

So excited about NaNo, and a little nervous!

  22. My favourite thankful on your list is your cat! Ha, ha, that made me laugh :-)

PS. So cool to find another Jace fan. *waves* And after your comments about Will and Jem I want to read CLOCKWORK ANGEL even more!

  23. I'm so sorry you've been sick. I totally get the bonding thing since my cat, who only cuddles when she choose to and not very often, chose to sleep right next to me last night when I wasn't feeling well.

I've heard about NaNoWriMo so many times, and this time I was convinced enough to sign up, crazy as it may be with my schedule. Good luck to you!
