Show Your Space

Summer is hosting a Show Your Space blogfest to launch off NaNoWriMo so we can all creep on each other and know exactly where we are as we kill ourselves in order to pound out 50,000 in 30 days.

So here's my writing space!

And, because I know everyone secretly wants a close up:

When I went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter I totally bought a Marauders Map and then, I framed it - like any good Harry Potter fan would - this is just the section I chose to immortalize behind glass. There's way more to this magical map.

Oh? You guys wanted my real writing space, didn't you? I'll be honest, I almost never sit at my desk. I do most of my writing here:
That's right. I do most of my writing in bed because I like my pyjamas, fluffy blankets and being comfortable. I know your jealous of my polka dot bedspread. It's a party every night down here (in the basement which moonlights as my room).

You may notice the little dots on the wall and ceiling. Those are glow in the dark stars. (And yeah, I'm such a nerd I arranged them like real constellations.) If you look carefully you'll see Leo (for me), Draco (because) and Aries, Libra and Cancer (for my three best friends).

Today is the first day of NaNo so Good Luck to all you other insane people out there and for those of you not participating, enjoy your sanity.

My blogging is going to be sketchy this month, but I promise to make at least one stop to each of your blogs every week.

Go HERE for more entries in this blogfest. (Look in the sidebar!)

  3. Love the Marauders Map! Great space and I love how organized you are!

  4. Nothing like writing in comfort, is there? My sofa is my office. Good luck with NaNo (which I’ve steered away from)

  5. Haha Melissa! I love that you have a desk but work mostly from your bed! That's great!!! Love the Marauder's Map...I would have framed it too!

I show my space today on my blog One Significant Moment at a Time. Stop over!

  6. Great space! I do all my night-time writing in bed too, but usually with hubby sleeping beside me and battling cats to stay off my keyboard.

Your cat is beautiful, by the way!

  7. Hey Melissa, thanks for stopping by and saying hi. Must say, I have to return the follow favor, because I too dig the sense of humor in your posts.

Did the cat come with the polka dot bedspread or did you have to pay extra?

  8. Nice desk! And I love the map of course! Good luck with NaNo!

  11. Ah, the basement space. Something magical about writing in the basement (or the attic for that matter).

  12. So jealous of the polka dot bedspread.

  13. haha Awesome picture of the cat in the bed. My placeholder for my writing spot shows my own cat on the bed. Very different attitude than your cat, however.

  15. That map is awesome!! And your room is so cute! Good luck to you on Nano!
(You have an award waiting too)

  16. The desk is actually made of two doors- a friend made it. It is generally neat as it is rarely used- note there is no chair!!!Just saying.....

  17. Your desk looks so uncluttered! No wonder you do most of your writing in bed. ;-)

I love your Marauders Map. I seriously need to get me one of those!

  18. LOL I LOVE that you write where it is comfy. That desk was so clean I was scared! LOL I too almost always write in my PJs.I will have to post up a picture of my writing space when I get home tonight!

  19. wow! superneat space--and that map is awesome. Have you noticed we all have kitties who figure prominently into our workspaces?

Mine will occasionally walk by and bite me on the leg. I think she wants me to start writing paranormals... :D

  20. I write in my bed all the time too! (I was too chicken to show a picture of my bed...I worried my husband would think I'd gone too far in the lack of privacy area.)
Especially in the winter when it's cold, being all cozy under my cover...I'm a major writing bedbug.

I love that you framed the map! And your desk is so neat and tidy.

Here's to a fun and successful Nano! :)

  21. Love your space! It's so clean and organized....sigh. My cats make sure I'm never gonna look that tidy!

Sometimes I drag my 'puter to the bed and write, or blog. Often, as I'm trying to get to sleep, I'll think about my characters....does that count as writing?

    Love the map, btw!

  22. TOTALLY jealous of your marauder's map and polka dots. I wish my husband wasn't so stuffy. He would pretend we were classy if I weren't such a slob. And the stars in my kids' rooms are in constellations, too--I did their own zodiac (Taurus and Scorpio) and then a couple more. (son has Sirius, while we are being Harry Potter geeks and all)

  23. I want the Marauders' Map! SO cool. And your room is so cute! I would definitely write on a polka dot bedspread :)

  24. Wow great desk, cool map, great polka dot bedspread, love the pictures made to match the spread, and cute kitty! Good luck with NaNo! :D

  25. I love how when I'm checking around, everyone seems to have a writing spot (desk, chair, bookshelves), but they never use it.

I so want a Marauders' Map!

Oh, I gave you an award on my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well done for being honest and posting a pic of your bed as your writing space! I posted a pic of my office, which IS where I write a lot of the time, but I probably should have posted a pic of my sofa too!

  27. Your room is so neat (in both senses of the word)! Mine is a disaster zone. Actually, most areas I inhabit or a bit of a disaster zone. I call it organized chaos. :D

I want that map! I have a wall scroll, but obviously, that's not nearly as cool as an actual one. <3 the Marauders! AND I'm a Leo too!

    ReplyDelete
  28. You are way organized! Me, I am now, but I didn't used to be.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You mean not everyone arranges glowing stars into constellations? I put them in our son's room and did just that. Consider yourself perfectly normal.

    ReplyDelete
  30. oh man, i wish i could write in bed. But just the very act of looking at a bed sends me into sleep mode

    ReplyDelete
  31. hehe love the writing space! And not jealous, I have a polka dot bedspread, too (nja-nja).

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, I forgot to add a picture of my bed. I have taken my laptop there on occasion.

  34. This is the cutest space! Love the polka dots - not that I could sleep amongst the dotties! So many different types of spaces. Bed is hard to beat. I read there but never write!

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOVE your writing spaces! All the pretty books caught my attention, too.

    Good luck this month!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love your writing space! I hope to have a laptop soon so mine isn't at a desk as much. Good luck with Nano.

  38. Mauraders map!!! That is very inspiring!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow, Melissa! Your word count is amazing!! Go and get you some, girlfriend!!
I love your Marauder's Map... what a great idea to frame it. I think it's inspirational. I have a Star Trek telecom and a Legolas head on my writing desk for inspiration. Hey dream big, right??
You're off to an excellent NaNo start!:)

  40. I remember having glow-in-the-dark stars as a kid! But I never arranged them in any form of constellation. I see your kitty keeps you company while you write in bed! I need to distance myself from my dogs when I'm writing though. They jump on my keyboard for attention, causing me to end up typing complete gibberiskvdkbd f bdkblvkb

    ReplyDelete
  41. I adore your space!!! Fits you perfectly!! The cat, the map, everything!

Countdown to Harry Potter!!!! I wish we could go together!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Everyone is so neat with their writing spaces!

    ReplyDelete
  43. That map is awesome. Great writing space - the bed I mean. I like the couch. Wish I could take a picture of my desk, but my camera isn't working.

Can't believe you wrote 6000 words this morning. I've only ever written that much in a week. You're off to a great start.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Good luck with NaNo

I write at my desk, and no other place, when i try it feels all wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  45. it does look like a comfy writing space! And I'm so jealous of your HP map! Good luck this month!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I adore your writing space AND your polka dotted bed spread. A framed marauders map?!? Wait- A MARAUDER'S MAP!!! Now that's some cool loot :)

How's the NaNo going so far? I think I'm off to a fair start.
Hoping to continue the plugging away tonight. Good luck!

Oh, and I had to smile when I read Draco (just because). Yeah, that one doesn't need an explanation :)

    Cheers!

    Happy NaNo'ing!

  48. I love the Marauders Map! Go, Harry Potter! :) Your writing space is so organized, too--the desk I use is cluttered with stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Holy cow, those spaces are SO NEAT. I don't think I can post mine now. It's so um, not neat.

    ReplyDelete
  50. wow 52 comments!!! I hate you! hahha. Anywho, your room looks really tidy :) and Mia just adds so much to the bed. I hope you write lots today so I can see you later. I finished Captivate and NEED (ha-ha) to read the next one. That is all!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Melissa - Totally fun room, girly-girl!!! I love it. And, that Marauders Map? Awesome. =D

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ha! I'm exactly the same--I have a nice neat desk, then I do most of my writing all curled up on the couch where it's comfy. Yet when my husband tried to pile things on my desk, I protested, like I really use it all the time!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Your room is freakishly clean. I mean, I think it's great and I am TOTALLY envious of the polka dot bedspread - my husband said it would ruin his mojo (insert eyeroll).
Have an award for you on my blog - you're welcome to take it, ignore it or say thanks and move on ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love your bedroom! It's soooo cute!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wow, I'm jealous. Must get to Wizarding World asap. Great workspace and bedroom. I hope to one day have such a neat area. :)

  56. We Melissa's must think alike! I had a "My Writing Space" feature on my blog last week. Lots of fun to see where everyone writes. :-)

  58. Hi!! I came over from Summer's fab workspace blogfest - I'm very very late, sorry!

Anyway!! You have two wonderful and amazing workspaces!! I love the map on the wall - that's brilliant!! I can only imagine how fab the rest of the map is!

Your real writing space is the best!! Stars, fluffy blankets, polka dots and a gorgeous kitty!! Lovely!! Take care

  59. I am so envious of your writing space- mine is nowhere near as neat or organised.
And so cool about the stars arranged as constellations, and the Marauders' Map. If I go to the WW, I am sure that is what I am going to pick up too.
