The wait is over

Don't let the magic end with this post, go check out these awesome girls. Seriously, the magic of Potter compels you! LaurelLisaRenaeColene and Jen.

Today, three generations of Wideen's will be watching the matinée of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Just like we have for every other movie in this epic series. (Yeah, my mom totally pulled me out of school to go watch a movie. You know you're jealous.)

One of the most magical things about Harry Potter is the way in which it brings people of all ages together.

For me, Harry Potter is so much more than a book or a movie, a world or characters. Harry Potter was an escape when I needed one, and a hope when I had none.

Harry potter saved the wizarding world but even more amazing and incredible is that he changed ours. The impact of this one idea is insane. There really is no other word for it besides magical.

(And in case you were wondering, yes, I attended the midnight showing. No, I won't spoil it for anyone.)

Did Harry Potter change you personally? Any other books change you?

My amazingly talented friend Ramona edited these pictures for me! Check her out

  1. I'm going in just a bit- I'm sure you'll be getting an email fromme when I'm done Melissa! I'm just so happy it brought so many people to read who might never have picked up a book.

  2. So awesome that your parents pulled you out of school to see it and I'm jealous you saw it last night. I don't know that Harry Potter changed me, but it is a book that inspires.

  3. The photoshopped pics are awesome.

I guess the series has inspired me to a degree to get back into fiction writing after focusing mostly on poetry for many years. It also gave me courage to write work with larger casts of characters.

  4. the goblet of fire was the first full length novel that my oldest son listened to hungrily wanting more... i think he was three or so. now he is a voracious reader. :)

  5. Well said!

Yep, HP sure did change our world, it even changed my life, a little.

    Thanks Melissa!

  6. HP totally changed the way I viewed books. I started reading them when I was twelve, when I thought I was too old to read anything but classics. It pulled me back into the world of middle grade and YA, and I've never looked back. So excited for the movie!

  7. Those photos are wicked! Love em'!
It's crazy how one series effected the lives of SO many people and had the magical effect as you described. It gave this wonderful way to escape and explore and do all the things a legendary book/series should do and in that respect I think it changed everyone's life. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who hadn't heard the name "Harry Potter" on the planet. Okay, maybe in North Korea...ehem.
I think most books change my life, be it fleeting or long lasting thats the magic of all books...they can be anything from mood altering to life changing.
Oh, I totally saw this hoodie somewhere yesterday that was Slytherin and I thought of you ;)
PS- that was so sweet of you to look up vertigo (which sounds weird to anyone else on here) but we had no definitive answer yesterday.
The source of vertigo is 90% of the time the inner ear...be it trauma, a ticked nerve, a malfunction, or whatever. The hard part is that it is HARD to diagnose with certainty because there is so little actually known about it and it's cause. Stress in the neck can even cause it so...who knows. But the point, was I smiled when you said you looked it up. :) Such a good friend

  10. In a way I suppose. The series prompted me to search for a thing on the internet called a forum, of which, being over the age of mublety mumble, I had only vaguely heard. Suddenly, like magic, I was transformed into an internet junkie, writing thousands upon thousands of posts, becoming a moderator and leading eventually, in a roundabout way, to starting a blog and coming here! So, yes, I think you could say that the series changed me!

  11. Great job on editing the pics. Also, everything changes you in a little way, the trick is to see it. :)

  12. Er, duh. I meant to say, I'm glad you enjoyed the film! Talking and writing at the same time does not work!

  13. Love the pics -- especially the first one.

Harry Potter affected me in that it got me reading again. Before Harry Potter my desire to read had been killed by the Classics. I never wanted to pick up another book. After Harry Potter, I started searching for similar things and that lead me to other great MG and YA books. Now, I can't stop reading.

  14. Harry Potter definitely affected me and my friends. I've always loved reading, but it made me EXCITED about reading. I mean, midnight release BOOK parties? That never happened before. Writing-wise, it's just a really impressive, well-wrought world that's also easy to read and absorb. You never feel like you're getting info-dumped on. Love it.

I also love your pics. :) Very cute!

  17. I asw this on opening day here in Australia, absolutely loved it. I think HP has changed so much for so many writers, by changing the way others see what we do.

  18. I'm going Sunday! So excited.

I think one of the things Harry changed for readers everywhere was to make magic cool again. I love that it's opened the door for other awesome magical stuff.

  19. YAAAYYY! ITS UP! This post looks brilliant! cough, your welcome, cough. Just kidding its your words and beautiful face, just as much as the editing.

Also, I love books! I will read the rest of the Harry Potter books, I promise. First I have to read the rest of the City of Bones series, as well as The Need series. Look at what you have done, making me crazy about these books haha.

  20. Ramona is so talented!!

I loved it! I can't wait to see it again! It was an escape for me as well, though I was late to the series. It always lifted my spirits. I loved open the pages and crawling into the book. Even the dark pages of Deathly Hallows.

  21. Lovely pics my dear! ;)

HP certainly got me interested in Wizardry and witchcraft. JK Rowling is such a inspiration for writers, I love HP. ;And the movies are so well made with great actors and locations. Great entertainment! ;)

  22. I love the books and the movies. We're waiting until next week to go see it-hoping the crazy crowds will have lessened a bit by then.

  23. Oh my gosh, these pictures totally rock!

I was talking to my friend the other day and I told her that I just feel bad for people who haven't read these books. They really have changed my life, too, and that's an amazing thing that can't be taken lightly.

  24. Thanks to HP, I'm a writer, so yeah, the series changed me.

I hope to see it tomorrow. I can't wait!

  25. Great pictures! I think it's so great that your parents pulled you out of school to see the movie... mine wouldn't, but I think I would for my boys!

HP made me raise the bar for writing... because didn't we all have to after that? Hope you enjoyed the movie... can't wait to see it!

  26. It's good to see a fellow Slytherin :) Love the scarf!

We were at the midnight showing too. Such a wonderful experience. I love how you mentioned that they bring people together. They do: of every age, race, and creed. Anything that can do that, that can make us all-at least for one night- come together as one, is pure magic!

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm sure I'll be seeing it again (and again) and waiting not-so-patiently for July!

    Cheers!
    Jen

  27. Big time! Harry gave me a lot of inspiration, a lot of strenght and I caught myself wondering so many times "I want to be like JK Rowling." It might have helped me decide to become a writer!

  28. Love those pics! I heard it was awesome and I can't wait to see it. Harry Potter changes me everytime I read it. I feel like I'm living between two worlds. IT really is magical.

Melissa, I named you as a Verasatile Blogger:).

  30. Hi Melissa,
I know I'm going to be in the minority with this. I personally consider 'Harry Potter' unoriginal and boring.
I'd rather read Enid Blyton. May you have a peaceful and pleasant weekend.
    In kindness, Gary

  31. These books were amazing to me in the quality of the writing. Rowling's skill made me enjoy and love a genre that I never would have touched before.

  33. What the Harry Potter books did for me is to show that books and stories are not dead if we have the imagination and strength to write well. In today's e-world, that's a lot.

  34. Melissa, there is an award for you at my blog :)

  36. I haven't read Harry Potter yet. *gasp*

I know, I'm so far behind, ha! I plan to read them eventually, and I'm waiting to watch the movies until I do so.

P.S. I have an award for you over at my blog today!

  37. I still haven't seen it, but guess what? I've finally finished the series!

Yup, all seven books, and I want to read them again right now! They were just so amazing.

I can't wait to go watch the movie! :)

  38. Books that changed me. Well, Harry-boy of course. Thanks to his series I began reading. And, as lame as it sounds, Twilight, because it introduced me to YA writing. Even if the book kinda sucks at (many) points...
